LETTER TO THE EDITOR McCoy Not Seeking Any Financial Donations Or Big

first_imgDear Editor,A few weeks back, I received a call from Lowell Sun reporter, Kori Tuitt. She asked “when are you going to have a campaign kickoff party like the other candidates?” I told her “I already did. My kickoff party was a month earlier campaigning and talking to people in front of Market Basket in Tewksbury.” I told Kori that I wasn’t going to have a big campaign kickoff party because, unlike the other candidates, I am not soliciting campaign funds because I’m spending my own money for the State Representative’s race just like I have for all of my 28 years as a selectman. I have never taken a single penny contribution because there are a lot of I.O.U.’s attached to financial contributions. When you take contributions from developers, realtors, and the power brokers, not to mention board members and politicians, there are typically expectations of campaign promises once the candidate is in office, usually not in the best interest of residents but rather those who stand to make money with certain votes. The practice of paying for my own campaigns is one of the reasons I have been reelected over and over for 28 years–believe me, it’s no easy task. There is a lot of resistance from the power behind the power because I call people and situations out. As a result, I’ve made enemies over the years, but luckily I’ve made far more friends. For the record: I am a JFK Democrat; I vote in the interest of the working man and woman. I don’t vote the party; I vote the man or the woman who will best represent me. While on social media, my opponents’ cronies accuse me of being liberal but they are wrong and there is nothing further from the truth. I am a common sense Democrat with conservative views, just like my parents before me. I’ve already gone on the record that I support capital punishment. I am against making Massachusetts a sanctuary state for undocumented immigrants. I am in favor of the Second Amendment with some common sense restrictions. I also encourage everyone to look at the ten minute interview I did on WCTV with Shaun Neville to see the discussion delving deeper into these very topics. Please go to my website at http://www.mccoyforstaterep.com to learn more about who I am and what my views are. I also encourage you to go to the Wilmington Apple online and read my answers that Robert Hayes asks of all the State Representative candidates. In closing, unlike my opponents, I am not seeking any financial contributions or big political name endorsements. The only endorsement I want on election day is yours — the Tewksbury and Wilmington voters.Thank you,Michael V.
